Comet Swift-Tuttle leaves a trail of dust, and when Earth passes through it, we see the Perseid meteor shower. These meteors hit our atmosphere at about 60 kilometers per second. This composite image shows meteors from the 2016 shower, appearing to radiate from the constellation Perseus.
