COSMIC MESSAGE
A bright Perseid meteor streaked over Sunset Crater National Monument in Arizona on August 12. Its initial green color is likely due to the meteor's high speed, exciting oxygen atoms in the upper atmosphere. Like other bright meteors, this Perseid left a visible train of glowing gas in its wake.
