COSMIC MESSAGE
Mars and Saturn have spent much of this year close together in Earth's night sky. This composite image tracks their paths from mid-December 2015 through early September. Both planets were near opposition, just north of the bright star Antares. Saturn's apparent motion traces a flattened loop, while Mars follows a wider, reversed path.
