GOES-16: Moon over Planet Earth

The GOES-16 satellite, launched last November, now observes Earth from a geostationary orbit. Its Advanced Baseline Imager captured this view of Earth and a gibbous Moon on January 15. While the stark, airless Moon is not its primary focus, GOES-16 provides high-resolution, full-disk images of Earth every 15 minutes in 16 spectral channels.
