The Calabash Nebula from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Calabash Nebula, seen here by Hubble, shows the final dramatic stages of a star's life. Its central star has exhausted its nuclear fuel and is contracting into a white dwarf. As the star sheds its outer layers at a million kilometers per hour, the gas collides with surrounding interstellar material, creating a supersonic shock front where ionized hydrogen and nitrogen glow blue.
