COSMIC MESSAGE

The Butterfly Nebula, also known as NGC 6302, spans over three light-years across. Its central star, a dying white dwarf with an estimated surface temperature of 250,000 degrees Celsius, is exceptionally hot. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows the intricate structure of the nebula, even though the star itself is hidden by a dense torus of dust.
