Lynds' Dark Nebula 1622 is a dark silhouette against a faint background of hydrogen gas. This region is close to the plane of our Milky Way Galaxy, near Barnard's Loop. Barnard's Loop is a large cloud surrounding the emission nebulae in Orion's Belt and Sword.
