COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet Hale-Bopp, the Great Comet of 1997, was brighter than surrounding stars, even over city lights. This image, taken above Val Parola Pass in the Dolomite mountains, shows its two distinct tails. The blue ion tail is pushed by the solar wind, and the white dust tail consists of larger particles.
