Earth Shadow over Damavand

This panorama shows Earth's shadow rising over Mount Damavand, an active volcano in Iran. The image was taken at sunset, revealing the dark gray shadow of our planet. Just above it, a pinkish band, known as the Belt of Venus, glows from back-scattered sunlight. This twilight phenomenon eventually merges with the blue eastern sky.
