A total solar eclipse ends as the Moon moves away from fully blocking the Sun. In the first few seconds of this transition, interesting things appear. Light streams between lunar mountains or through lowlands, creating a "diamond ring" effect when combined with the surrounding corona. This sudden first light signals the end of totality.
