COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 247 is a spiral galaxy, about 70,000 light-years across, and smaller than our Milky Way. It is only 11 million light-years distant, seen nearly edge-on toward the southern constellation Cetus. A pronounced void on one side of its disk gives it the popular name, the Needle's Eye galaxy.
