COSMIC MESSAGE
Tonight, Mars is at its brightest, opposite the Sun in the sky. It is also near its closest approach to Earth, making it ideal for telescopic observation, despite a dust storm. These two Hubble Space Telescope images compare Mars near its 2016 and 2018 oppositions. The 2016 image shows a clear atmosphere, while the 2018 image, taken just days ago, shows surface features obscured by dust.
