COSMIC MESSAGE

The majestic Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is filled with hot gas and is home to many young stars. Spanning 100 light-years across and lying 5,000 light-years distant, it is visible without a telescope towards Sagittarius. Many bright stars are visible from NGC 6530, an open cluster that formed in the nebula several million years ago.
