Comet 46P/Wirtanen is currently the brightest comet in the night sky, though too faint to be seen by the naked eye. Its spherical coma is about half the angular size of a full moon in this southern hemisphere telescopic view. The comet was about 35 million kilometers from Earth when this image was taken.
