Many disk galaxies are as thin as NGC 5866, but we see this one edge-on. Our own Milky Way Galaxy is also an edge-on disk galaxy. Classified as a lenticular galaxy, NGC 5866 shows complex, dark, and red dust lanes. The blue hue comes from bright, young stars in its disk.
