Four Towers and the Equinox Moon

NASA APOD · Javier Martinez Moran
COSMIC MESSAGE

The first Full Moon of northern spring rises behind four distant towers in this telescopic view. Captured from 40 kilometers west of Madrid, this moonrise coincided with lunar perigee and the March equinox. The Moon's distorted shape close to the horizon is due to looking through a layered atmosphere. This creates tantalizing visible effects of atmospheric refraction.
