NASA APOD · Michael Miller
COSMIC MESSAGE
Omega Centauri, also known as NGC 5139, is a globular star cluster about 15,000 light-years away. It contains about 10 million stars, much older than the Sun, within a volume about 150 light-years in diameter. It is the largest and brightest of about 200 known globular clusters in the halo of our Milky Way. Unlike most star clusters, Omega Centauri shows different stellar populations with a spread of ages and compositions.
