COSMIC MESSAGE
The California Nebula, NGC 1499, drifts through the Orion Arm of our Milky Way, about 1,500 light-years away. This cosmic cloud, 100 light-years long, glows with the reddish light of hydrogen atoms. Its shape, by chance, echoes the outline of California on Earth's west coast.
