Unusual Signal Suggests Neutron Star Destroyed by Black Hole

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Gravitational wave detectors, LIGO and Virgo, detected a burst of gravitational radiation three weeks ago. The signal matched the pattern expected when a black hole destroys a neutron star. One object in event S190814bv had a mass greater than five times the Sun, a good candidate for a black hole. The other object had a mass less than three times the Sun, suggesting a neutron star.
