Red sprites are a type of lightning that occurs in the upper atmosphere, rarely photographed in such detail. These mysterious bursts of light, sometimes resembling gigantic jellyfish, have been recorded for over 30 years. Their root cause remains unknown, appearing only above some thunderstorms. High-speed videos have recently detailed how these red sprites develop.
