COSMIC MESSAGE
The Flame Nebula, about 1,400 light-years away in Orion, is a star-forming region glowing in optical light. X-ray data from Chandra and infrared images from Spitzer allow us to see through the dust into its heart. Inside, a cluster of recently formed stars, NGC 2024, ranges in age from 200,000 to 1.5 million years old. These young stars illuminate the surrounding gas and dust.
