An Almost Eclipse of the Moon
NASA APOD · Gyorgy Soponyai
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Moon passes through Earth's outer shadow, or penumbra, in this composite image from Hungary. This subtle event, a penumbral lunar eclipse, makes the Moon appear only slightly darker. It was the first full moon of 2020 and almost dipped into Earth's darker central shadow, the umbra.
