The direction "north" on Earth points to the northern spin pole, around which other stars appear to swirl. This pole's position in the sky is fixed, and its height above the horizon always matches your latitude. The further north you travel, the higher the north spin pole will appear. At the Earth's North Pole, the stars would appear to swirl directly overhead.
