Analemma of the Moon

NASA APOD · Gyorgy Soponyai
COSMIC MESSAGE

An analemma is a figure-eight curve formed by tracking the Sun's position at the same time each day for a year. To photograph the Moon's analemma, you must adjust your timing daily because the Moon returns to the same sky position about fifty minutes later each day. Over a lunar month, this traces a similar curve as the Moon's orbit varies.
