COSMIC MESSAGE
Messier 24 is not a cluster or nebula, but a window into the distant Sagittarius arm of our Milky Way galaxy. It is a gap in the nearby dust clouds, allowing us to see stars some 10,000 light-years away. When you look at this region, you are peering through a void over 300 light-years wide. It is sometimes called the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud.
