These dark streaks in the composite image of a solar eclipse are reversed shadows of lunar mountains. The Moon was too far from Earth to completely block the Sun, creating a 'ring of fire.' Light streamed around the Moon's edges and through lunar valleys. The center image was captured from Xiamen, China.
