M1: The Crab Nebula from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows the Crab Nebula, the remnant of a supernova observed in 1054 AD. The nebula is filled with complex filaments. Scientists note that these filaments appear to have less mass than was expelled in the original supernova and are moving faster than expected for a free explosion. The Crab Nebula spans about ten light-years.
