COSMIC MESSAGE

In the distant universe, time appears to run slowly. This effect, called time dilation, causes light to appear shifted toward the red end of the spectrum, or redshifted. Astronomers use cosmological time-slowing to measure vast distances in the universe. The featured image shows light from distant galaxies broken into its constituent colors, allowing astronomers to measure the cosmological redshift of known spectral lines.
