Half Sun with Prominence

Here, a solar prominence of hot, magnetically levitating gas arcs from the Sun's upper right. While it may appear small, this prominence is large enough to engulf Earth and can persist for over a month. The lower half of the Sun is obscured by thick clouds, a common sight from Earth, where clouds block the Sun about two-thirds of the time.
