When galaxies collide, their magnetic fields warp. NASA's SOFIA, a flying 747, observed Centaurus A to study this. Centaurus A's unusual shape comes from two colliding galaxies and jets powered by a central supermassive black hole. The image shows magnetic field lines derived from SOFIA data, superposed on visible and submillimeter light.
