COSMIC MESSAGE
These cosmic clouds resemble outlines on a map of our planet. On the left, the bright emission region outlined by dark dust lanes looks like the continent of North America, giving NGC 7000 its popular name. To the right, just off the "east coast" of the North America Nebula, is IC 5070, whose shape suggests a pelican. Both nebulae are about 1,500 light-years away, part of the same large and complex star-forming region.
