Long, narrow cloud bands stretch across the Pacific Ocean. These "ship tracks" are formed when water vapor condenses around exhaust from ship engines. The tiny particles grow into water droplets that reflect sunlight, making the tracks visible from space. NASA's TIROS satellites first spotted them in 1965.
