This long-exposure photograph shows star trails arcing around the North Celestial Pole, marked by Polaris, the North Star. The arcs are a result of Earth's rotation on its axis. An ancient tree in China's Yiwu Desert Poplar Forests appears to reach up towards the pole, making a striking foreground.
