Analemma over the Callanish Stones

NASA APOD · Giuseppe Petricca
COSMIC MESSAGE

An analemma is a composite image showing the Sun's position in the sky at the same time each day over a year. This particular analemma was captured at noon near the Callanish Stones in Scotland, an ancient stone circle. The Sun's path forms a figure-eight shape, a result of Earth's axial tilt and its elliptical orbit.
