This asteroid, 243 Ida, has a moon. The robot spacecraft Galileo encountered and photographed Ida in 1993 on its way to Jupiter. Scientists unexpectedly discovered the tiny moon, Dactyl, which is only about 1.6 kilometers across. Ida itself is much larger, measuring about 60 kilometers long and 25 km wide.
