Total Lunar Eclipse from Sydney

NASA APOD · Barden Ridge Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE

On May 26, 2021, the reddened shadow of Earth played across the lunar disk in this telescopic image from near Sydney, Australia. The Perigee Full Moon slid through the northern edge of Earth's dark central umbra. The total phase of this lunar eclipse lasted about 14 minutes. Earth's shadow was not completely dark, but suffused with faint red light from all the planet's sunsets and sunrises.
