These two cosmic jets, resembling a double-bladed lightsaber, beam outward from a newborn star in Herbig-Haro 24 (HH 24). This stunning scene spans about half a light-year, some 1,300 light-years away in the Orion B molecular cloud complex. The central protostar, hidden from direct view, is surrounded by a rotating accretion disk of cold dust and gas.
