Messier 17, also known as the Omega Nebula, is a star-forming region about 5,500 light-years away in Sagittarius. Stellar winds and radiation have sculpted its gas and dust clouds. This region, about 30 light-years across, is powered by hot, massive stars that formed from its cosmic material.
