In Bavaria, ice fog crystals create these halos and arcs around the setting Sun. When the air temperature drops well below zero, water vapor can freeze into tiny ice crystals. These crystals then reflect and refract sunlight, producing a stunning display. This particular photo captures the phenomenon as the Sun sets behind St. Coleman Church.
