A rocket exhaust plume, backlit by the Sun, creates a spiral that looks like a galaxy. This Falcon 9 rocket launched from California, but its exhaust was visible across a wide area, even from Akureyri, Iceland, where this photo was taken. The Sun's angle made the ordinary exhaust appear extraordinary, creating a temporary, beautiful spectacle in the upper atmosphere.
