COSMIC MESSAGE
Two comets appeared near the Sun during last week's total solar eclipse. Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks was expected, though it was dimmer than anticipated. Comet SOHO-5008, a sungrazer, also appeared in long-exposure photos. It was the 5008th comet identified in images from the SOHO spacecraft, disintegrating hours after passing too close to the Sun.
