Lyrid Meteors from the Constellation Lyra

NASA APOD · Petr Horálek
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Lyrid meteor shower, which peaks every April, appears to come from the constellation Lyra. The sand-sized debris that makes up the Lyrid meteors comes from Comet Thatcher. The comet follows a well-defined orbit around the Sun, and the part of the orbit that approaches Earth creates the meteor shower.
