COSMIC MESSAGE
Spiral galaxy NGC 3169, located some 70 million light-years away in Sextans, appears to be unraveling. Its spiral arms are being pulled into sweeping tidal tails as it interacts gravitationally with its neighbor, NGC 3166. Eventually, these galaxies will merge into one, a common fate for galaxies in the local universe. The drawn-out stellar arcs are clear signs of this ongoing interaction.
