COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 247, a spiral galaxy smaller than the Milky Way, is about 70,000 light-years across and 11 million light-years distant. Tilted nearly edge-on, it dominates this view in the constellation Cetus. Its pronounced void on one side gives it the popular name, the Needle's Eye galaxy.
