COSMIC MESSAGE
Charles Messier was a comet hunter in the 18th century. He made a list of objects that were definitely not comets, and M27, the Dumbbell Nebula, is number 27 on that list. This is a planetary nebula, the glowing remains of a Sun-like star that shed its outer layers. It sits about 1,200 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula.
