W5: Pillars of Star Formation

The star-forming region W5 shows how massive stars can trigger the birth of new ones. Older stars in the center of the cavities blow hot gas outward. This gas then compresses cooler gas, leading to the formation of younger stars at the edges. NASA's WISE satellite captured this process in infrared, revealing the hidden details of stellar nurseries.
