What looks like a giant cosmic umbrella is a stream of stars stripped from a small satellite galaxy. This stream extends 100,000 light-years above the bright disk of NGC 4651, a spiral galaxy about the size of our Milky Way. The smaller galaxy was torn apart by repeated encounters with NGC 4651.
