All the Water on Planet Earth
Though oceans cover 70 percent of Earth's surface, the planet contains surprisingly little water. This illustration shows that if all the water on or near Earth's surface were gathered into a ball, its radius would be only about 700 kilometers. This is less than half the radius of Earth's Moon and slightly smaller than Saturn's moon Rhea.
