NGC 2264, a star-forming region in Monoceros, the Unicorn, is about 2,700 light-years away. This complex area of gas and dust contains reddish emission nebulae, energized by new stars, and dark dust clouds. Where dust lies near hot, young stars, it reflects their light, creating blue reflection nebulae.
