The Egg Nebula, also known as RAFGL 2688, is a dying Sun-like star. This image, a combination of visible and infrared data from the Hubble Space Telescope, shows the star's outer layers shed into shells of gas and dust. A bright, hot core illuminates these milky "egg white" structures, revealing the star's final stages.
